If you look after the pennies....

By johnriley1uk
.....the pounds will take care of themselves. My Granny never used to tire of telling me this. Anyway, here's some pennies from my Tin Of Pre-Decimal Coins, plus a pound that has had to fend for itself.

We had an eccentric Aunt who would melt in costume jewelry--sort of-- Well for Christmas she would give us ( the children) jewelry boxes complete with the cotton square and filled with pennies---wrapped in news paper and tied with old string---- That many years ago the $2.00 was a treasure--- now it is the memory that brings a laugh and a smile every time--
Aunt Rose died at 96 years just after my first daughter was born (some 50+ years ago)

Your pennies are a treasure in a different way!

I'll bet that collection is tied to a lot of memories John.

I really like this - a simple idea, really nicely executed.

Proper money! Smile

As a kid you certainly knew when you had a bob or twos worth of those in your trouser pocket, falling into the canal would not have been good!!! Grin

If you look at the dates on some, think of the history that the hands that held those coins have lived through.

Great stuff!

In the present climate, when did you last use hard cash? Every shop prefers you to pay by card, for everything. Good illustration of the old saying, provided you have enough copper coins!

Yep, I've got loads of these myself, John.
Sadly; not a 1933 of course. Smile
