Shooting with Kodachrome guarantees that Red will be Red and photographers made good use of this when looking for impact. There are actually a lot of different types of post boxes, and maybe somebody will be able to define what this one is?

It certainly is red! Kodachrome and red colours go together but always tends to be a bit saturated red. I assume you already know that GRVI is short for George Rex VI. or King George VI. He became King 11 Dec 1936 so that must around the vintage of your postbox.
