The Cartway in Bridgnorth is so called because it was the route from the riverside quay in Low Town up to the High Town. Donkeys with their loaded carts plied the goods to the tradesmen in town. it is on record that there were several ''houses of ill repute'' along the street.
This is a scanned image from a 1982 transparency, so the quality is not too good.
It is snowing here in Bridgnorth

Cartway or Railway Street? Both steep and both very slippy in inclement weather - I know; I've walked up and down both of them!!! A snowy scene capture that has stood the test of time very well.
