This is a statue of the Buddha in Ayuthaya (the old capital of Thailand) which has over hundreds of years been enveloped by a bodhi tree (the same type of tree under which the Buddha originally found enlightenment / nirvana). It is now a celebrated and sacred place for Buddhists to visit and pay their respects by placing ribbons/flowers.

Lovely photo. Not been to this part of Thailand (yet)! Would make a nice cover shot for the Lonely Planet guide book.
