Hello, Jon. You have some very different images in your portfolio. What is your opinion of this yourself? You have another welding picture in your pf and someone told you it was overexposed. This is even more so. When I look at this, I see a splash of pure white light. In fact, from the thumbnail, I thought it was a firework display. You haven't given your camera or your camera settings, and so it is difficult to suggest what you are doing wrong. Certainly, you need to compensate for the intense bright light and try to get more of the sparks, which are far more interesting . In fact, you have good detail on the sparks, but the welder himself is out of focus. This will never be an easy sort of picture to get right. I have never tried it myself, but would suggest a fast shutter speed, a low ISO, certainly no flash, some exposure compensation, and stepping back from the glare so that there isn't so much of it in the frame. I think I might be inclined to concentrate on the welder, the light on his face, and the sparks only, to make life easier.
Pamela.
