give up

By joseluissc
Here was a chance. I think the machine was in AE mode and I had it in hand, below the waist. (only point and shoot during walking)
I tried to recover the light that had burned the area of the shoulders, and get a little light to the area of the pants that were black.

Do you think a crop on the left would get the space on the right that I was unable to get?

I can't fault the composition. Tones also work for me. As candids go this is a good one, and well captured in the moments you had to shoot it.

I like this Jose. It has a very nice candid mood to it.

You asked if cropping off the left would provide more space to the right, - and it would give the impression, but might make the proportions look too tall?

In the mods, Ive used a new feature in CS4 called Content Aware Scaling to select the area to the right of the subject and drag it out to the right. I does distort the boat a little, - but I think it works well for this.

Its a nice graphic shot too so in the 3 mods Ive done Mod1 with the added space, and a little sharper; mod2 is with a monotone layer overlaid to reduce toning a little; and mod3 is using a crosshatch artistic filter, combiner with the find edges filter to create a very graphic, almost cartoonish effect that you might like.

Good work, and I hope this critique is helpful.

The only thing I've done was horizontal alignment. Was my lucky day Smile
I like street/candid a lot. unfortunately I don't spend too much time on this category.

Thank you Nick

You're right. And your suggestion is very welcome. I don't use CS4 (only elements). Anyway you did remembered me a similar tool as plug-in for gimp I saw maybe a year ago. I don't use gimp either, but maybe will give a try for this kind of modifications.
By the way, I like more the aspect ratio after your mod.
Usually I process my raw's on silkypix. trying right now (till today I believe) the first public beta of version 4.

My tendency was to lower (generally is to) the contrast and try to sharp some fine details on the floor and on the clothes.

This remembered me to try a painting like pop art on a mod with the colour version. Maybe work fine. : -)

Thank you very much for your critique and mods Willie.

Bests from,
jose luis
