The announcement of the new Sony Cybershot RX10 * this week piqued my interest in the Sony Cybershot R1 again... and I went and bought one from that auction site, it arrived promptly and works very well, for a 2005 digital camera. For those that don't know, it has a 10.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, with live view and focusing (that manages to put a number of current Digital SLRs with live view to shame for focus speeds, and shutter response... but that's besides the point) and it has Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* f/2.8 - 4.8 5x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 24-120mm in 35mm terms. I took it out shooting today, and I'm liking it. Yes it's weird. Yes it's big, and unfortunately it's a bit plasticy and creaky in construction (or at least this one is), but it seems to be able to produce some decent images:
* PS - I can't wait to get the RX10 in for review
