Tufted Ducks at Sunset.

Having spent an excellent day at a local nature reserve,I was about to pack up for the day when I noticed this pair of Tufted Ducks swimming around together.Being a favourite duck species of mine,I couldn't resist taking a few silhouette shots.I got down as low as I could and framed up the scene with the golden colours of the setting sun reflected in the water,I tripped the shutter as soon as the ducks swam into the scene.
I quite like how the only visible detail,is the white patch on the side of the ducks body which makes him instantly recogniseable as the male,as does the long "tufted" feathers on the head.

All comments always welcome and appreciated.

Hi Justin

I have seen this photo of your 'in another place' as they say and haven't yet commented upon it.

Suffice to say I think it is an outstanding and evocative piece of work that can only be enhanced in my opinion by a slight reduction in the size of the bottom border as I find it disproportionately large in relation to the size of the image (but then again - I am not a great border lover)

Like you - I like the recognisable silhouette, and the detail retained in it. Goes without saying that the light is lovely.

The lighting here is almost unreal! So good that I have to ask if it is natural, or photoshop?? The rest of your portfolio looks natural, so I will give you the benefit of doubt - truly an image every wall should own!

It is natural.It is the setting sun a minute or two before it sank below the horizon.

Its a great shot, have you noticed the odd shape of the reflections, almost like little cartoon people. I can only reflect the comments already made, this is one of those special shots that works so very well,

Hi Brian,
Someone mentioned elsewhere,that in the reflections,it looks as though the male duck has a top hat on and the female is wearing a bow tie.Not easy to see in this compressed size,but you can just make it out.Interesting.

Excellent work. I love the very smooth texture of the water and the warmth of this piece. The silhouetted ducks are just wonderfully captured. Very impressive.
