Back lit portrait

By Kali
A portrait of my mate at Uni, Helen. I liked the idea of backlighting and this is my first attempt.
I used three prolinca lights , one at the back with a snoot whacked up high, The key to the left with a BIG softbox, and the fill to the right, lower with a smaller S/B.Lighting ratio at the front is 1/4. Med format with Provia 160 downrated to 120. 60/sec at f5.6. Scanned into P/shop, used layers of Gaussian blur to soften skin, blood vesseles 'healed' from eyes and whites whitened and overall luminosity sharpening done.

Portra or Provia? Did u mean Portra in your description? Looks more like Portra/NPH.....strange film isnt it? I think its a bit odd in the colour dept, much like Fuji NPH. I think I see the characteristics in this shot too. I often find "portrait" film is gentle on skintones and a bit un saturated (for me) at times. Still, youre shot here really is interesting and good Padds xxx

Thank you Beavis, it is just the very day I needed to hear that. I was starting to doubt myself. it was lovely to wake to a nice complement. We get NO encouragement at uni, they just have this thing about never making a positive comment.its wearing!
