For the Love of Mumtaz

By Kali
Maybe the the most popular tourist picture of them all - and all for love.

When Shah Jahan's wife Mumtaz died in childbirth, the Shah was so so grief stricken he ordered the most beautiful unique mausoleum of them all to built in her memory.
The building is exquisite.Shimmering white marble is inlaid with fabulous jewels, lapis, carnelian, malachite, and mother of pearl to name but a few. Few come away unaffected by the Taj...and it must be seen in all its guises, for it is bluish pink in the dawn, dazzling white at noon and hues of peach and cream and sepia at dusk.
Rumor has it that the shah planned to have a mirror image of the Taj in black, across the Yamuna river for his own mausoleum, but for some reson unknown to me, he was arrested and imprisonned in Agra, and spent his final days there, in a cell over looking the shrine of his beloved.

Love the subtlety of colour here. Did you sneak in after closing time then?

Think this is a fantastic shot, don't understand the lack of interest. Gets my click.
