My husband came dashing in the house, yelled "grab your camera" and dashed out - so I did (well, you do don't you!). There in the middle of the yard was Cecil! The biggest, grandest caterpillar I have ever seen. It's an Elephant Hawkmoth caterpillar - my first!

I gently picked him up and invited him to a quick photoshoot! He was huge and his skin, velvety soft - I was really surprised at just how chunky and solid he felt.

Image 1 = He explored the picnic table.
Image 2 = I'd accidently nudged the table and he went into 'snake' mode.
Image 3 = I offerred some of my fuchsia to try and coax him out of 'snake' mode.

But he wasn't having it, he'd had enough. So I gently placed him on my shrub and this morning he has gone!

(P.S. I realise he's a little soft in places, but I really wanted to share the visit! Smile)

Yes, feeling his feel really holding on to my arm was quite disconcerting. I was hoping he'd stay around my fuchsia bush, but today there is no sign of him!

It is impossilbe for me to leave a comment for every individual picture. So I am going to say it here for all of them. U have taken some of the best, if not the best Macro pictures I have ever seen. I love to shoot macro more then anything else, The only way I can get the kind of shots U have taken is with my SLR. I can't seem to get that with my new digital SLR no matter how hard I try. I have the new Panasonic DMC-G1 and I am still tring to learn how to use it. I hope once I do, I will take amazing macros like yours. I have found all of your work to be very impressive. Thanks for sharing.
