Getting To The Point

My grandson and I saw this 3 inch Ichneumon Wasp yesterday, it flew past us and landed on a tree nearby.

The black pointy thing isn't a sting, it's an ovipositor (used to lay eggs). Smile

Obviously likes to lay them some distance away, Karen.
Well spotted - they are very quiet in flight.
Wouldn't want to be on the other end of the egg layer.

Wasps come in weird and wonderful shapes and colours. I've never seen one like this.
