Fly trying to look repentant after a lovely roll in the mud. She only does this when she has just been brushed and preened for a photo shoot...

Still having trouble getting the exposure right for the black and white mutts. Any tips welcome (no, I do not intend to change the dogs for single coloured ones)

A beautiful study Cathy and I know these kind of shots are a lot harder than they look. I have a B+W king Charles and have the same problem, especially wjhen I'm trying to catch him curled up with our ginger/white cat.

A rule of thumb would be expose for the highlights rather than the shadows, as with digital you can rescue morre detail from darker areas than you can from blown highlight areas. Bracketing might help. Other than that, play with layers and try selective curve adjustments on the different areas
I'm no expert but I hope my 2 cents worth is worth something (more tha 2 cents!)

PS you should stick with the black and white dog because the licence is cheaper :0)

Beautiful looking Dog kathy, I'd try to expose for the highlights and try using the shadow highlight tool in PS to bring out detail in the darker areas there will almost always be detail in the under exposed area but not in over exposed bit.

I get exactly the same trouble with Cae, Kathy, trying to expose for black and white and get it right. I end up doing most of it in PS unfortunately using levels or brightness tweak. Good advice from Chris though.

Thank you all for comments and advice.

Thanks Stephen and Mari - I find I have to do a lot of PS work on the mutt shots! Pics of them in bright sunlight are a total disaster though!

Thanks Chris - I haven't experimented with the shadow/highlight tool yet, but I'll give it a go.
