This is truly outstanding, Kathy. One of those images that deliver an enormous punch. (No pun intended!)

The B&W treatment is inspired and accentuates the monontone effect that snow often has on the landscape. The positioning of the two nearest horses (your own, I suspect?!) couldn't be bettered and that distant tree provides perfect balance. I absolutely love it.

With snow in the UK for the first time in ages I was expecting to see lots of "places covered in the white stuff" shots in the gallery this week.

However, your seasonal shot is so unexpected, brilliantly composed and very well presented. Thanks for sharing it with us Kathy.

I like the way the background trees provide a light grey contrast to the darker equine figures.

Nice one

Thank you all so much for your comments. I am continually impressed by the Ixus! Photoshop played a large part in this one though...

Ian - not my own horses, I'm afraid. My two nags (a Welsh pony & an Austrian Haflinger horse) are wrapped up in rugs & complaining bitterly about the weather! Wimps!

Thanks again for your comments.

James - I think they may be shire crosses - not pure bred because they are not tall enough, fairly well-built animals though!

Just superb. The high contrast was a splendid choice for this. Those magnificent animals are posing so beautifully and the hedgeline ties it all in so well.
It is a good photo bet the choices you have made make it brilliant.

Really like the composition here, Kathy - especially the depth of the shot and the in-your-face horse in the foreground - whilst the strong contrast adds extra impact. Fabulous, well done ...
