Award Shortlist

By KathyW
Persuaded him indoors to pose so I could have another play with the studio lights...

Tried to get this one a bit harsher to fit the character. Is "gritty" the right word?
Not sure I got there, but I used one light from the side & another light with a snoot to put a bit of light on his hat, which came out rather blacker than I hoped for...
All critique & advice welcome as I'd like to try more of this sort of thing, with or without the cowboy hat & cigarette!

Thanks for looking

You have got this perfect Kathy, the look, the capture, the mood and the lighting.

Took one look at the thumbnail and thought it was going to be magic and you didnt let me down.

Smouldering, gritty, hard (but soft Wink )John Wayne eat ya heart out.

God, CC is almost heart stoppingly drop dead georgeous Smile But Im sure its all your camera work Kathy. Wink

Well done and well done Vince too for being such a great sport and model.

fab shot..and pose!
i think you did a great job with the lighting, my only crit would be the light on his hands being a little strong & taking power away from his face, i'd have darkened them a bit in PS, only MHO

Very noir! This is great. The expression and use of cigarette as a prop work really well. The b&w conversion is very good too. I agree with Jo about maybe darkening the hands slightly and maybe the ear as well. But I'm just being picky. This is superb.

This is one very, very good mono image. Now it helps that the model has the age and craggy looks to start with, but you set up the shoot, the props, the lighting the whole smokin / gritty image. It has, as others have spotted, an American feel to it harking back to a bye-gone era. Now make this a series and just for me have a female in the spotlights, regards, Geo.K.

Thank you all so much for your encouraging comments & votes Smile

Jo & Geraint - I see what you mean about the the hands... Might get him some liquorice papers for his roll ups too, as the ciggie stands out just a little too much, I think.

Lee - I am definitely not letting him anywhere near Anglesey unchaperoned now!!! I'm going to have to get him another hat in a larger size! Smile

Thanks again folks Smile

Excellent. Looks like a poster for and old Bogart movie.

Don't know if "him indoors" would be chuffed or not with that, so best not tell him! Wink
