Texture In The Dark

By kaybee
Actually, it wasn't that dark and the holly was getting caught in a patch of sun, but I wanted the texture to stand out from the background.

This is where spot-metering comes into its own.
The camera was set to 'Aperture' and I went for fairly shallow depth of field of 7.1 to ensure it was just the holly that was going to be in focus and used the spot metering on the brightest part of the brightest leaf so that it would show up the texture without being burnt out and throwing the background into darkness.
