It seems like a stripped down version of my Nikon P600 from a few years ago. That only has WiFi but has a tilting flip-out screen & a digital viewfinder. The lens looks identical with similar spec.

I forgot to add that I bought a Russian Leningrad in the 60s unusual as it had a power (clockwork) wind on & shutter reset it was pretty hefty! I added a 135 telephoto lens & a wide angle lens to the kit. The viewfinder has engraved rectangles on the screen framing the different lenses.fields. I lugged this kit around for years & took a lot of photos. Like the Contax the only problem I had to fix was light leakage through the joint with the removable back. The felt seal seems to get too compressed with use & allows light in. The camera was very reliable & tough when a strap broke the camera hit a concrete path & chipped the concrete, the camera body was hardly marked!

Interesting article, I still have my Fathers Ensign Box camera a Contax with Zeiss f2 pullout lens very battered but still works, it is a bit light leaky! My last film camera was/is a Canon AE-1 Program. Older digital cameras? I have a Sony DSC-R1 still works beautifully & getting accessories for it are mind-numbingly expensive!

If you have a quick release make sure that it is fitting correctly, my Manfrotto has rather a shallow 'dovetail' location into the tripod seat & sometimes it appears to be secure but has not seated fully. I was lucky the first time it happened that the camera had a strap & I was able to catch it before it hit the deck!

Well it's probably lighter than my DSC-R1 & a great spec but 1250 ouch my Nikon Coolpix P600 going to have to do for me for now!

I've got a Sony DSC-R1 which I've had for a long time really because I've not seen anything I would replace it with - until now, but 1000 mmm now I'm a pensioner I think it will have to wait. I suppose the price is the equivalent of the DSC-R1 in 2007. Twitch twitch!

Support is a problem with so many of these international companies I like Sony products & Samsung & the usually are reliable & perform well. But when you get a problem especially once they are a year or two old the help & support, if you can actually get through to the right 'department', is abysmal you certainly don't get any reward for your staying power getting through. It seems that repair costs are scaled to dissuade you from proceeding I've had the same problem with Olympus even before digital cameras & later with a Stylus model. Panasonic are no better I've got a Panasonic DV video camera sitting in my cupboard with mainboard failure 'beyond economic repair' I should bin it but having spent over 100 having a new tape mechanism fitted a few months before this failure I somehow find it hard to just dump it.

It's a big chunk of lens for only 4X zoom hope this means very high quality something similar to the Sony DSC-R1 maybe?

  • Posted on: Pentax To Be Sold to Ricoh - UPDATE

    Quote:Isn't Nikon owned by Mitsubishi

True but " Mitsubishi " do not have a camera brand of their own, To that end they have left Nikon to run themselves, With no sign of aspirations to replace the Nikon logo.....Grin

Whatever, Mitsubishi own many companies & brands, NEC for example, Who are still NEC...!

The only thing that suprises me is why Ricoh, What ever happened to Samsungs involvement with Pentax, Was this blighted by Pentax buying in " Sony " sensors....LOL....Smile

Bottom line is its a shame, But it seems the way of the world today.....Sad

Buy a Volvo you get a Ford, Buy a Jaguar you get a " Mondeo " ( Not that there is anything wrong with Fords ...Smile ) But the whole concept of brand loyalty for a myriad of reasons, Is now just a questionable excersise based on snobbery in most cases.....Wink

Bit out of date Jaguar Land Rover is now a TATA company & the Ford stuff is vanishing fast.

I love my R1, if only Sony had continued down the R1 route & produced this camera with an R1 size sensor. Going down the Minolta route has produced some excellent Alpha cameras but left us with only the 'H' range as a fixed lens alternative - well at least this one has a Zeiss lens!

Very interesting but with so many cheap minature cameras available for silly money & remarkable picture quality - I bought a video camera complete with an 8gb memory card & built in rechargeable battery - it is no bigger than my finger & cost 19.00. Just how easy is it for a security operative to detect something like this in use? If someone really wants to take pictures/video of almost anywhere how can tou stop them?

I love the output from most Epsom printers BUT everyone I've used goes through ink cartridges like they are fitted with drain taps.
I'm using a 'cheap' HP B8550 no complaints from customers, prints on almost anything (not board) ink seems to last for ages only 5 cartridges HP reliability legendary!? no matter what I try I seem to always return to HP - 20 years+ experience still using a Designjet 750C Plus for big stuff, it's 14 years old still going strong near photo quality? OK for photo poster stuff as I'm retired now so unlikely to replace it when (if) it expires.
