It's very dramatic and beautiful. The light ray on the sea makes a great lead in giving depth and drama and the wet rocks pick up the light beautifully. Compositionally I think it's just about spot on because you let the lightray come almost up to the bottom frame edge rather than placing rocks in the way. The lighthouse sits well on a third. I suppose the bottom right corner has a slight distraction in the shape of a partially seen but bright rock edge and the buildings on the headland are dramatic sihouettes but slightly cut off at the right. However those are minor points.
As to your thougth that it is starting to look 'overcooked' I know what you mean as the colours are so intense but ultimately it depends on whether that was what you saw on the day and it may well be. The camera can't take in the dynamic range your eye can so ultimately in these extreme lighting conditions you will have to use multiple exposures if you want to retain this much detail. If you used photomatix then it might be possible to create an unnatural appearance but if you just blended your shots in photoshop then unless you really pushed the contrast or saturation, you will achieve an accurate result. I think you've worked this image really well and fully deserve all the awards!
