You have an attractive subject in a natural pose, your framing is good and this could of been a great candid portrait.

First and foremost this needs to be sharp where it matters on the subjects face. Although you were at your widest aperture and would have had minimal depth of field I cannot find a sharp point on the image. Equally zooming in I cannot see any evidence of ghosting that would suggest this is camera shake - a risk with telephoto lens and a good tip if shooting handheld is to always keep the shutter speed faster than the equivalent lens value i.e. over 1/100s at 100mm as you have done here. I can only assume that you have taken a bit of a grab shot before the lens had settled its autofocus.

The lighting is strong and contrasty but the camera's Program AE mode has coped well enough with it to retain detail where its needed.

The mono conversion works and you have a good range of tones. Some tweaking in the channel mixer might help to lift it further, particularly sliding down the yellow channel may help reduce the blown highlights.

It fails because of the lack of sharpness.
