Box Junction

By ade_mcfade
Ok ok ok - I do take a lot of shots of Leeds town hall, it's a fair cop. In my defence I live just up the road from it and though I may have put leeds on the EPZ map over the last year, there's not that many buildings that are in such a good location at sunset - the position of the sun here is at 90 degrees to the hall, so the polariser works a treat.

So this is a 3 shot HDR taken last sunday at about 4:15PM.

To show you how much work and faff goes into these shots, the tone mapped starting image has been placed in V2.

V3 will be a shot of Snowdon that I don't think i posted before.

No 3 is certainly modified Smile
I dont blame you for repeatedly shooting such a fine building and the boxes are a bonus. Hang on, where is all the traffic?
I seem to have grabbed the wrong version for a mod.

Well composed Ade. No problems with shooting the town hall again - the light in the evening and the box junction are as good a scene as any landscape. My problem/quandry is the processing. I'm sure you've heard it all before, but somewhere between V1 and V2 would look better for me. The crop and perspective manipulation on V1 are great. Maybe it's a personal thing, but for me it just seems a bit over processed on the HDR side. All down to personal taste in the end.

V2's the overprocessed looking one to me - V1's a plain image with V2 on top ot it to add details in the highlights and dark areas.

Then I used a mono layer to reduce the cartoon like colours and get that faded browish look.

Not to everyone's taste I guess

upped the contrast on the water and that's it - it's a straight RAW with 5 stops of ND grad on the top

3s fab! 2s not my taste, 1, I like the treatment and the image, voted earlier, is it on a slope though?

V1, love the acid like cross processing.

V2, not so good

V3, an average EPZ shot that sure is popular.

just to let you know that V2 is not a "finished" shot, it's the start of the tortuous process and is there to illustrate the start point of it Wink
