Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae)

By metro074
Another out and about shot. This one of a Kookaburra. They are best known for their call as it is rather like an echo of a human laughter. They are a meat eater feeding on mice, lizards and other small cratures and crustations. When they pair they pair for life. Kookaburra's are quite friendly and can become tame around humans and will readily accept scraps of meat. If you are stood near them when they go off, I can quite assure you they are rather deafening!

I will catch up with you all next week as we off on a working weekend. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Smile
Thank you for your support on my last upload.
Best Wishes Carol Smile

Hi Carol, while I was in the school, we had a rhyme and it was like this Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree. This name Kookaburra reminded of my school days.. Anyway this is a great shot of this little bird, excellent clarity of the plumage, great shot indeed.

Nicely posed and with lovely light in his eye. The sheen on his feathers is great, too. Watch out for over-exposure on the white feathers and, if possible, try to compose without twigs crossing behind the bird. In this case, thanks to the brilliant blue sky, cloning out the extra twigs should be pretty straightforward, turning a good shot into a really good one.
