Quote: evokes a strong emotion rather than just looking pretty!

Im unsure what My oppinion is in regards the Finished article as im set in my ways now and very hard to change that, but I do have an open mind, if i was to mark on Technical Merit then this would be a failure.

For challenging the bounderys then this is quite good,I do like the fact you made me think about what im seeing, Its not pretty as you say but does make me look twice, So easy to go the classic route of following all the routes and formulas of Photography or doing something like this which sets you apart from the million of us who do Pretty Pictures.

Well done for challenging the bounderys

SunriseFirst of all this is a wonderful picture I would loved to have taken myself, In hindsight I would have liked to see somthing in the large grassy area to grab my attension, maybee being a little closer to the red flower making that a little more dramatic in the frame.
I do personally think without that there is a little to much grass area, I dont see how the rest of the picture can be improved.
Of the mods v1 would be my choice

Balluta Bay, Malta

Balluta Bay, Maltasorry just noticed this was Criteque , On the positive side the white balance is very good and you have the colors of the night captured well and the location is wonderful.
I feel you would have done much better to have taken this from below looking across the water to the church and hopefully getting some reflections of the building .
Still with that said a very nice composition capturing Malta as it is

Great Skua in flight

Great Skua in flightComposition would be perfect on this, but unfortunately the lighting has gone against you with large parts of the main subject lacking any detail.
Did you have spot metering on as this may well have helped lift out the dark area had you metered on the underside

Ferry from the City

Ferry from the CityI'm a person struggling with choosing what makes a good picture but would like to give my opinion so take it with a pinch of salt lol.

The picture to me seems to be about the big wide sky over the city location and in that you have got it spot on, In my case i find the large boat distracting as it draws me to the left side of the picture made worse by the strong bold blue colour.

The Colours and lighting all seem good to me for the skyscrape and think it is great record shot of the city on a fine day, it certainly give you the feel of how big the city is. I would have taken exactly the same shot as you did btw.

As I said this is my own opinion and the comments are to improve my own photography by questioning what others do.
