Have been messing about with different setting, trouble is i forgot what setting this shot was taken on.

I think you are doing well, and macro photography is never easy, so practice a lot. I like the way you have filled the frame with the rose, you just need to get the petal edges a bit sharper, especially in the centre. If you need more light on your subject, and it looks like you could have done with more at the bottom, tilt the rose upwards, clothes pegs are very useful for this. Then you are halfway to getting good detail.
To find the camera settings on your image, right click on the picture in your file, go to Properties>Details and it will all be there.
