Arum Lily

By Kim Walton
Common Name: Arum lily
Genus: Zantedeschia
Species: aethiopica
Exposure: Full sun
Hardiness: Hardy
Soil type: Moist, Boggy
Height: 90cm
Spread: 60cm
Time to divide plants: March to May
Arum lilies make striking architectural plants with large, glossy foliage which, in late spring and early summer, is joined by large, white, hood-shaped flowers. These are popular for cutting. The plants look best grown beside water, in shallow pond margins or a bog garden, where they associate well with other water plants. They can also be grown in damp borders with other moisture lovers. In cold regions or when early flowers are wanted for cutting, grow in large pots of rich compost in an unheated or frost-free greenhouse.

PLEASE VIEW IN LARGE WHERE POSSIBLE

This a second attempt with this flower.

Thanks for those that pointed out that the last was (slightly)unsharp and the whites blown out. This is what this site is all about.

I like it. Good clear shot, the only concern for me is that I am drawn to the green foilage in the corner which is also in focus and grabs your attention after the stigma pulling your view from the flower which should be for me the main focal point of the shot! It may have been worth darkening of bluring it in Photoshop etc..Just my view. Otherwise a cracking shot. Well done. Shaun L

This certainly works better than the original version with more detail in the petals.

Works for me, you can even see the faint lines in the flower, Well done.

Must be viewed large to get the best.

lovely flower Kim. Here in the Western Cape of South Africa these flowers grow wild and there are literaly millions of them around in the fields. A beautiful sight when they bloom.

You also see them called Calla lillies. Arum is the name for the entire family. Anyway, it's a first class image. Almost like a lilly version of the famous 'Max' photo.

Beautiful Kim, lovely clarity and detail to the Calla Lilly stamen and petals, good colour and composition, I like the contrast afforded by the ferns.

Thanks for the comments all.
I deliberatly left the ferns in .After blurring them ,i found the lily was a bit "in your face" so reverted back.
