Took the first "roll of film" with my new Nikon D40, rather ran the D40 through its paces.
Still coming to grips with its settings and exposure system, I ventured out late last Sunday afternoon to test and perhaps bag a few worthy shots with it. Pretty much racing against time, I made use of the last fading daylight to manage a dozen or so shots.
The sun dipping low over the horizon inspired me to this pleasing composition ... with the evening glow serving as a generous backdrop, I added a touch of the Nikon's fill-in flash to illuminate these dainty backlit flowers in the hedgegrow, allowing the thistles in the immediate background fade into semi-silhouettes. The resultant frame didn't look too mean for my first serious shot with the D40, and opted to post. You will, naturally, be enjoying more shots as I explore and (hopefully) extract more of its potential in the coming days.
I hope you like the composition, viewed large if possible.
