Bridge over troubled water

By kuipje
“sung by Simon & Garfunkel 2007”
Moving along towards the city centre this canal is called “Karnemelksloot” (karnemelk=buttermilk)
On V1 there is a little poem that says (translation, sort of)
“Buttermilk, mumbles the canal
You see the men pushing the boats
Towards the diary”
Between 194-1942 there was a tram line here that connected Gouda and Schoonhoven (a little village about 17km to the South of Gouda).
History of Gouda part 2
In 1361 and 1438 there were great fires who brought extensive damage to the city. Only four houses were spared in the fire of 1438. After the conquest of Gouda by Geuzen on June 21, 1572 in Gouda, the castle was demolished in 1577 to so it would not to fall into the hands of the Spaniards in a possible recapture. However, it is doubtful whether this was the real reason for the demolition or the Gouda population seized the war to rid themselves of the castle and its owner. The final destruction of the castle was not completed until 1808, when the Charter tower was demolished.
In the former courtyard the castle mill was build. After the mill burned down in 1831, it was replaced a year later by the mill 't Slot, which is still standing.
V3 is the oldest “poffertjeshuis” in Holland. The changed the name and painted it. It doesn’t look that old anymore. (Poffertjes= little pancakes mostly eaten with whipcream Ymmmmmmy) See menu (middle section)

Ya, and they like to smoke Pot too, but I don't like that. I have to remove the plants first before they can use those pots.

An interesting tour of the city - those narrow houses in V4 look so tiny -just like those in Amsterdam. I love V2 Jos - beautiful scene.
My daughter asked me years ago if Simon & Garfunkel was classical music.
I used to play my album when I did my ironing.

I love the light and the painterly processing of this image, Jos. It's wonderful. Somehow reminds me of my childhood in the fifties. I love that son as well.
