Camouflage...

By ladynewbury
I took this Snipe shot at Titchfield Haven a few weeks ago, while out with Dave and Mike Young. It was so well camouflaged, we wouldn't have seen it had it not been for Mike and his binoculars. Thank you Mike.

Did you know?...
Snipes search for invertebrates in the mud with a "sewing-machine" action of their long bills. The sensitivity of the bill is caused by filaments belonging to the fifth pair of nerves, which run almost to the tip and open immediately under the soft cuticle in a series of cells. Through these filaments the bird can sense its food in the mud without seeing it.

Thank you for all the V's & C's on my Longtail Tit upload. Special thanks to those who gave me their precious awards. PM's sent. Pam

Great to see. Barry and I spotted one last month in Minsmere, but not close enough to get a decent shot. Their camouflage is amazing. Well captured. Gill

Nice one Pam, a splendid image, this bird was invisible with naked eye, you've really made the most of this shot.

Pam you get bird images that I can only dream about and for that and the fact that the image is pin sharp you get an award from me!
