Might be that the branches were moving, or perhaps you had trouble holding the camera still for long enough, particularly if the light was a bit low.
Can't do much about the first one (except wait) but a tripod might help the latter

still a great image,i think the blured parts make it intresting too. I use a nikon D40 aswell wht settings were you using? was it windy or low ligh??
