Small World - Big Plans

By Leedslass1
Many thanks for all your votes and comments on my previous upload "Vestrahorn and Stokksnes Beach". Special thanks too for all those who thought it worthy of their much valued UAs. It is just 3 weeks since we returned from Iceland but it seems like a lifetime ago. So much has changed. My thoughts then were about battling the elements not about combating a virus.
Like most Camera Clubs all our Club meetings have been cancelled but we are looking at what can be done online to help members continue to be involved. We are going ahead with our next competition which is a Set Subject and the theme, which was set last September is "A Small World", quite apt in the current circumstances. I have opted for a theme based on travel making the world a small place not wanting to be too dark in the current situation. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to visit so many countries over the years and look forward to visiting more in the future.
There is also an emotional element for me in this image as I feature the globe, notebook and pen which I gave as a present to my Dad before he went on a World Cruise back in 2010. My Dad sadly passed away last November.

Yes, I guess travel as suggested by this collection of tomes is very much a non event now and for some time.
The inclusion of those gift items to your Dad will bring back many happy memories for you however, I'm sure.
A very attractive still life image, and I too hope you will see more foreign visits in the future.

Ditto for the Camera Club continuation. We have two left which will both be PDI only, no prints.
I like the idea for this and the narrative explains why it is personal to you. I'm sure your Dad would approve. Just to be ultra critical (as we need to be for competitions), maybe just a wee bit of tidying up bottom right edge of your globe?? Also, if it had been mine, I might have given it a bit of vignette just to keep the eye from straying. Funny story....a friend runs a group for novice photographers, one of whom mispronounced vignette as vinaigrette Grin. Good luck.

A yes, I remember travel, we used to do a lot of it in the early 21st century.

Looking at it again on a different computer, could I also add the suggestion that you might consider darkening the whole image a touch? It could be the monitor on this PC of course, but to my eye it's a little bit bright for a still life, which are often the better for being "on the dark side"! Just my opinion of course.

A fine still-life, Carol, the travel books, TV, and EPZ of course, are going to be only way to see the world during this crisis 😀👍
