Moorhen chick

By leeg
Taken at Stover in Devon. This is one of 3 chicks that kept coming out of their dark and sheltered surroundings for feeding from their parents. Really good to watch, but couldn't isolate them from such a bust background. Bit miffed about the distracting foliage in front of the bill, but it's a habitat shot after all!! So here's what I did manage!!

Cheers for any comments

These little sods are very difficult to capture as they tend to dart in and out of cover. I think you have done a fine job. Like the light and reflection. Sometimes leaving the background adds.

Another very nice shot Graeme. Is it full frame? Yes, there are nits but pretty well dictated by the environment. Like the composition a lot. Shame about the shadow of a reed across its body and head. However, will certainly do as more than a keeper until a better opportunity presents itself - suspect it may be a while though.

The subject stands out well, even thought there is detail in the background. It works for me.

As you said it's a habitat shot, not every shot can have a clean b/g.
This after all is the birds natural environment.
Nice work

I think it's an absolute cracker and the wee leaf in front of the bill is a doddle to delete in photoshop.
Don't let little things annoy you, with a few tweaks this could be an award winning shot, after all, the pros all tweak now!!!!!

Great shot

Well done. Have been taking pics of several new bird arrivals this week and appreciate the difficulties.

Thanks for all the comments. No John, it is about a 10% crop. Not far off.
