Menorcan Night Sky

By Legend147
Thanks to all for the votes, comments and awards on my last image.

Itís been a long time coming but at last I managed a Milky Way shoot last week. After lots of reading and research and inspiration from other EPZ members (Sherlob) this is my first real attempt. I am reasonably pleased but still room for improvement. The light on the rocks is reflected light from the beach resort coming from the left.

Processed from 18 stacked images (same exposure time) in Starry landscape stacker with some work required to foreground as I didnít have a separate decent exposure to merge the foreground with the background after stacking. I learnt that high temperatures can effect noise levels. It was 28 degrees in the evening when I shot these images. I think the star to the left is Venus but I could be mistaken??

Great big pat on the back! It's as good a Milky Way image as I've seen (I have 'Milky Way' tagged so am alerted to any that are uploaded). For me, the make or break is the foreground and this is a definite make! Must go and try it again. My problem is that my Nikon D610 has no exposure simulation I have eventually discovered, so can't see anything to enable me to compose the shot. It's complete guesswork. Hey's not easy even with all the features on your camera.

Went back to check this out after seeing your most recent Milky Way shot. I've tried a few times, but this beats my efforts (larger sensor helps!) Just wanted to add that your bright 'star' is Mars and you've also got Saturn in the picture - one of the bright stars right in the middle of the Milky Way (from a check on the Stellarium program that maps the night sky).
