It is such a shame that in a beautiful World there can be so much sadness. I hope he keeps the memories close to his heart.

My thoughts on this and other comments are too diverse to write down.
But an image of old age which can interpreted in many ways.

Words from Eleanor Rigby'?

Same thing once happened to me, except it was a lady, not a gent. It was someone with other friends at a club I used to go to (pre-lockdown), and hadn't seen for years. Her husband wasn't there with her, which in the circumstances, was unusual and didn't have the heart to ask her. A fine candid, Leo, if perhaps sad 👍

Yes, it is very sad. And I see a lot of sad people like this too. In fact, yesterday a lady told me she had lost her husband last year and now she has a little dog she adores. She said it has kept her going.

Interesting to read all the comments here.
We assume that he is sad and lonely, but perhaps, even though his wife has (presumably) passed away, he may be philosophical about that, and enjoy remembering the long life they had together. When my father-in-law lost his wife, he said he had no need to feel sad as they had enjoyed a long and very happy life together, and at their age, it was natural to expect and accept death.

We automatically assume he is lonely - very probably he is, but we don't know. His age and physical form makes us see him as round-shouldered and head slightly down in sadness...it may not be so. We can only guess.

When my wife died. I was told you'll always have the memories. Memories when you're alone doesn't
do much for me. Know how he feels Leo.

Old people just grow lonesome ...waiting for someone to say .....hello in there ....
Line from one of John Prine's song's called "hello in there "
If he is all alone now ...it is good for him to still be out in the sun exercising ... probably what his wife
would hope he would carry on doing...
Poignant shot Leo
Cheers Walt
