To the City

By mrswoolybill
I took this during a brief interlude of truly gorgeous light. I was planning a dreamy, high-key effect – with anonymous figures, all walking away from the camera, a hint of motion blur.
I quite liked the result, but high-key isn't really me. I like dark. So I had some fun with it. For me this is still dream-like, which was the main intention.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

That's the effect that I was aiming for, thanks Helen.

That's grey cloud, it's there in the original.

Dreamy indeed Moira , its good to try something different now and again and this works for me . I love the grainy sky and if you had fun with it is that not all that really matters ??

Londoners always look slightly strange when it's cold, it seems to be a big shock to their system when the cold winds blow on them.
I think you have caught the moment well and the processing does make the difference.

Dougie

I could tell them a thing or two about cold winds.
The effect you were after is done to a tee here Moira, everyone is in such a hurry and more so in London this captures shows just that and I like the way everyone is all wrapped up it sure looks cold .

The week we were there it was actually several degrees colder in London than in the North East - bitterly cold. Everyone was in shock.
Thanks everyone,

Dark dreams! I like the rear view perspective, Moira, the anonymity of large cities.

A bit like when I saw Bill's image earlier, first impressions can be deceiving. Even at full view, I still think the lower bank of cloud on the LH side of the picture looks like a distant mountain range - which makes the picture all the more surreal, for me at any rate.

Regards.

Like they are heading into the city to a job they all hate. Doing what they hate but doing it because they have to. Great processing on this.....Sandy

They look like zombies on their way to the mines. I like St Paul's being so far away - rather an unreal and effective effect.

The motion blur combined with having them backs to camera give the impression of them escaping from something or someone (you?), not going to something.
The treatment makes it more sinister than dream-like, I feel.

What I admire most of all about this particular piece Moira is the fact the you took risks and ended up with a rather stunning image.
