Silly Sunday Sand Dance.

By lifesnapper
Hi all and a very BIG thank you for your much appreciated votes and comments on my 'Shades In The Shade' image. A special thanks also to Colleen for her much treasured UA, THANK YOU! Smile

Today, it's back to Rochester high street for another entertainment treat. I remember my old dad used to love the sand dance and from time to time on a program called 'Sunday Night at the London Palladium,' (In black and white and through a snow storm on the screen,) there would be a sand dance group featured. And that was as far back as when Tommy Trinder hosted the showSmile Seeing it performed always makes me smile and think of my dad so I was well pleased to see these guys doing it on the day.Smile
The front wheel of the policeman's bike had a mind of its own and went off at all angles, goodness knows how he managed to keep it going.Smile I seem to remember a clown riding a similar one in Billy Smarts Circus when I was a kid.
Any way, back to the 21st century and my very best wishes to you all,

JohnSmile

Unforgettable.
Recently, Frank Skinner and Suzy Klein attempted to recreate this in the second programme of the series "What a Performance" - interesting history and hilarious as well as nostalgic. It's already been repeated on BBC4.
There wasn't a policeman in the act Wink
Happy Sunday, John Smile

Great fun image and brings back happy memories for me too. I remember my Dad doing his own version of the sand dance in the sitting room when I was little. Just mentioned it to him after seeing this and he said his Dad used to do it and he copied him so you've brought back happy memories for my Dad too. Thank you Smile

I remember at the Glasgow Garden Festival in the 1980s there was a sand dance duo called "Tut and Carman."
