An Expression of Loss.

By lifesnapper
Hi all and many thanks for your lovely response to my Hat & Mask images, very much appreciated as always.

Today; a rather more serious subject matter.
An old man sits alone with his thoughts, seemingly unaware of the world around him. From the time that I spotted him to the time I walked away, he remained motionless and his expression unchanging.
After a few moments of wandering and wondering, I decided to turn back not really knowing what I was going to do or say but, I felt compelled to do something. I returned to the bench where the old man was sat to find him gone and nowhere to be seen. I had never seen him before and doubt that I will ever see him again.
Him and his story will forever remain a mystery to me but, I can't help but wonder if any of us can completely be sure that his story will never become ours?

All the best all and let's be grateful for what we have, despite the pandemic.

A well captured moving image

Shame his story will remain a mystery

My temptation was to tidy up his coat ... but of course it actually adds to his character and story

Just fine as it is

' I can't help but wonder if any of us can completely be sure that his story will never become ours? ' That is the feeling I always get when I see the poor, the homeless and the sad.

I'm glad you tried to go back to talk to him, sometimes, for some, life can be very lonely.

He's looking to our left. Intuitively that's always going to be downbeat, it means looking to the past, to memories, regrets.
He's wonderful.

Like the rest of us as we get older he may be thinking how out of touch he is with the world today.

Great image and why we carry cameras around John.

Great job...

John, this image and your description made me stop scrolling through the gallery and take a couple of minutes to think...
In that respect your image has achieved its photographic goal, a good image will make you think about it, but this made me think about far more than just the photography.
Thank you.

Brilliant image.

Loss and looking backward are a part of ageing: the longer you live, the more of them there will be.

Maybe it's a bit easier for us to contemplate someone else's losses than our own...

I can imagine so many different scenarios here. Most are very sad. Quite often on the news they ask us if we've seen, usually an elderly person, who has gone missing. Maybe this fellow. This is very good John.

Terrific image.

His story could be mine. I lost my wife of 48 years a year ago, - yesterday would have been our 49th anniversary, I know how he feels.

Superb photography John of your best mate...I will return with an award to add.
Indeed there is no escaping the fact we all get old one day getting out of this mess alive as they say. I hope he is still able to remain young at heart bless him all the same.
Best regards
