  • Bird eating persimmon by litesport

    Thank you everyone.
I was using a 2X teleconverter on my 40-150 lens when I took the picture. It was from our bedroom window on the top (3rd) floor of our house which is what is called a townhouse in this compound. Just think of a row of attached houses built in the 90's.

Thank you Willie for identifying the bird. We have a lot of them flying around and sitting in the trees at the back of the garden. And obviously they like to eat the persimmons.

Thank you Moira, Pamela and Willie for your comments, tips and mods. I really like what you have done with the cropping, colours and brightness of the persimmon as well as reversing the image. I never would have thought of that.

As for my editing software, I have Affintiy 1.10.6. I know a new version is out but I've no idea if the improvements are what I would need, or even mean and do.

Thank you for your kind comments. I love living here in Beijing, it is so photographic. It looks like you are based in Edinburgh?
If you add me to WeChat I can then put you on a photography group that is mainly Beijing based but also has people in France etc.
    My WeChat ID is Litesport.

This is the untouched jpeg file, I also have the untouched raw file.
I was looking for a geometric kind of effect with the sky and shadows on the sand dunes. I feel that they sky needs editing as it it too light. But making it too blue would also look unnatural. And I feel that I should have lowered the camera so as to get more dune and less sky. Obviously this can be cropped and edited. Feedback/criticism and edits most welcome.

Quote:This has such a look of familiarity that I have kept looking at it to recognise the studio and model (in both cases, without success!) Normally, people see nothing outside the frame, and don't appreciate the context. Excellent 'behind the scenes' shot.

Thank you for your comment. Whenever I look at pictures pictures here I often wonder what is happening. What would I see if I was there and could look around.
The studio was at an art nude workshop with Photoion. Unfortunately I cannot remember the models name, bugger.

Thank you everyone for your comments and modifications. I certainly like the first 4, each one a different picture and different personality.
I am trialing Affinity Photo as Luminar seems very much just a load of presets.
I would like to take my photography into Art Nude as opposed to glamour. @Dudler, I am very careful not to use my work laptop for anything that could cause any issues. I have no access to these pictures on my work laptop. I obviously have lots to learn and will be trying out different editing software and different poses, lighting etc.
    Thanks again everyone.

I agree with your comments on the background. I will be posting this one for critique later. I am new to photo editing and need to start teaching my self how to make edits using some form of software.

It was quick, almost thoughtless throw away shot that to me seemed to tell a behind the scenes story. As others have said, it does make the situation seem rather clinical and certainly not at all sexy.

My daughter took these using my Huawei P20 Pro. I am amazed at the picture quality from phones these days. Still love my Nikon D80!

Barron Falls in flood is a spectacular sight. As a born and bred Cairns boy this picture certainly brings back memories. Thank you.

    Hi Moira and Willie
Thank you for your detailed critique. I have many photos from Egypt (lived there for two years) but many of my photos just look like run of the mill holiday snaps. Trying to get better with my composition etc. I don't have a travel tripod so most photos are hand held or the camera (rather long in the tooth now) is sat on the ground/ledge etc. My photograph of Singapore (lived there as well) is obviously taken with a tripod.

White balance - don't really understand it so I only really ever use auto or direct sunlight. As for the EV thingy, no idea how to use it. I also have never really used any software but I do have an oldish version of lightroom on my pc and my work macbook has the latest photoshop. To be honest I have no real idea on how to use either. My intention is to get back into proper photography and learn to use one of the software systems I have.

I am also intending to purchase a new camera some time in the future. Thinking of an Olympus OMD EM-5 Mk iii when they decide to bring it out. My reasoning is that I do a lot of traveling and I want something light/small with a good choice of lenses.

Anyway, thank you both for your critiques, much appreciated.

    Regards
    Brendan
