new day dawning

By liversalts
Taken on a tripod at 6am. The place looks totally different at any other time of day. This was the best of 3 images that I had taken. Feel I have cropped to severely on the left. Other 2 photos the crops are much better but the image colours are not as nice as this one.

For me personally.. I like the way you cropped the shot.. it is a beautiful shot. I like the little touch of starburst in the tree and how you got the landscape in the warm glow.. I think you did a fine job.

A very nice low light shot...
I like the starburst sun...
That just adds to the shot for me...
Very well taken...

The crop doesn't spoil the shot, but if you wanted you could extend the scene left a little in software.

To do this in PS:

Images -> Canvas Size

Tick 'Relative', lock the image to the right and set the number of pixels by which you want to increase the size. Choose a largish number as you can always trim it later.

In the resultant blank area, use the clone and heal tools to copy an area of sky from the right of the tree, which most closely matches the tones expected to the left. Use the area to the left of the tree to copy the ground, as it is totally different than to the right.

Once you have done that, use a combination of smudge, blur and heal to remove any signs of the join.

Finally crop any unwanted areas.

Hi Paul. Good to see uploads again. I like this, but think that Ian might have a point there (PS - Ian - thanks for this tech tip).
I really like this, and that is not only because we have had no sunshine here in London, but well seen, and lovely classical lines.
Would have liked to see it in large view.
If you will be following Ian's advice, and extend to the left, consider a touch upwards as well just to see how it looks. Andre

lovely.... and i like the idea of extending the scene, although it is not a major thing for me..

I think the crop here works just fine. No distractions. Beautiful color and composition. Nicely done.
