Self Builder

By Origami_Owl
From a recent commission I did of some wooden house self builders - in which there is a plot of land which people buy an area and then make whatever designb of wooden houses they want within it - there are some fascinating results. This portrait is of one of them, his house is still very much in the building stage, so I used the wooden slats of the wall to frame him against the building site background.

Using the timber to lead you into the shot works very well. The adoring look by the dog makes this one special for me.
Well done.

Good shot Paul, nicely framed (excuse the pun) and the dog is a great addition to the shot.

Liking it! Have done a mod, though it could do with a bit more contrast and a closer-in view of the dog and his proud owner!

Thanks for the comments folks - and the two modifications too. John - I love that crop you've done, it really zooms right into what's important in the pic. I was holding back in order to show more form in the dog body and his legs, but I think yours is very effective. Luke - like yours too, very subtle change, but simplifying key background elements like blacking over the top left window and darkening other elements has given it a fuller look.

Glad you like it.

this is very nice. i find it so difficult (actually impossible!) when photographing people to withdraw from the full on face pic.

Like it, putting him in context and obviously enjoying his work. The dog's expression is great too.
