Remembering Leeds

By LynneJoyce
First an apology, we have some very serious health issues to deal withSad which will take some months to work through, so my attendance on and contribution to this site will be somewhat erratic for several months at least. Enough of our boring stuff, on to the post.

These were taken during a photo day with AdeMcfade on Sunday, a most enjoyable experience during which I took a mere 586 photographs. (Editing that lot plus the as yet unedited ones from Spain, London, etc should gainfully occupy the wakeful worry times!) As you can see from the first four images, we got the chance to take shots of the remembrance day celebrations, hence my title, though our POV was not ideal.

I have included a selection of other images from this exciting city, some architectural, some just pretty (I think) some abstract and 12 & 13 showing photo geeks at play. Anyway, thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy at least some of them.

Good afternoon Lynne sorry to hear of the health issues i hope all is working out and in the right direction. A lot of work here and not one capture that should not be offered on its own excellent set of the parade well presented the the autumnal caprures greta colours and tones excellent light. The chimney ones i always like as for the shadowy figures well best leave it at than.

Plerasure to view keep well

A very expansive and diverse set, Lynne: I love your remembrance day images, and the chimney stacks are excellent......I see a face in V 15 (but not in V 2WinkWink).
The selective colour retention in V 1 works a treat.
V 12 would be excellent for a caption competition.
Hope the health issues get sorted out sooner rather than later.......all the best.
Regards, Ronnie.

I'm not sure about selective colour for an event such as Remembrance Day, it seems a bit gimmicky, self-assertive as technique. I think it works best in V3 here, which is discreet.
V12 is, as you probably guessed, the shot that I would have been looking for. But V14 is my favourite by miles, the perfect 'found' abstract, really strong on competing diagonals.
Hope you are getting over your health worries, it would be nice to see you Oop North some time.

As you will all know, I am extremely fond of gimmicky techniques (see previous 3D, boxes, fans etc). Grin I haven't a clue what a self asserive technique is though, but I'll work on that. We're all different. That is the strength of this site.

Quote:I haven't a clue what a self assertive technique is though, but I'll work on that.
What I mean is technique becoming more important than the subject matter. I'm just not sure that selective colour enhances the message that the composition conveys. That's all.

Sorry to hear about the health issues Lynne. Can't life be a bitch sometimes ? I was wondering about your lack of posting on the site, and now I know why.
Another varied set from you here and I find 11 and 14 particulary appealing for the lines and patterns. And I notice with 10 and 15 you have some pretty interesting chimneys in Leeds.Although how Santa Claus will get down them I do not know !! No jokes about the rememberance parade as I have a friend serving in Afghanistan and what a splendid job the armed forces do today and off course in past conflicts too.I hope you can overcome your ''conflict'' Lynne and are not absent from the site too long !!
Take care.

What an amazing and so colourful (well, in the majority!) set of images. Always love old fashioned chimnies and the couple of shots of them set against that clear blue sky are wonderful. It is however V6 & 9 I'm especially drawn to with their lovely light and great comp. Our son spent 3 years in Leeds and I visited a couple of times - happy memories!

Do so hope the health worries get sorted out swiftly and successfuly.

Hi Lynne, I too wondered why there had been no uploads from you for a while. Hope your health problems improve for you Asap. This is another of your excellent uploads with a great variety of shots to choose a favourite from, For me its V1, I really like the selective colour. Then V9 the autumn tree followed by V15, I like the 'face' in the chimney pot.
Take care and thanks for your support on my efforts.

A superb set, the colour and clarity are excellent..The most appealing ones for me are tower and the chimney onesGrin....I like them chimney, especially in continental Europe, they are all different shapes. Yours are in excellent detail, especially V15, the light is wonderful, the blue sky made a perfect backdrop. Have you ever thought of B&W for V11 &14? OK.. I'll have a look.. A quick MOD..for 11. Smile I'm not good at MOD, the idea is to emphasis the shape and line..maybe some more adjustment is required..
15 Nov 2012 2:10PM
Like all of these very, very much Lynne. I have several favorites in this set. But the simpleness of V15 really attracts me too after seeing so many full of interest shots........Sandy
After going through again I think V1 too........Sandy
