February 2022

By LynneJoyce
Stormy Weather 2022

We are sick of wearing wellies
And all things waterproof
And scaring ourselves silly
Lest the tiles blow off the roof.

Our best dog walk is boggy,
Wed go elsewhere if we could,
Because the dogs are always soggy
And caked in dirt and mud.

The rain is horizontal
And the wind reaches force ten,
We get the briefest respite
Than it all starts up again.

Storms Dudley, Eunice, Franklin
All came crashing through the door,
And according to the Met guys
We could have many more.

The River Aire has flooded,
Its bankside path has disappeared
Completely underwater,
Exactly as we feared.

As dog walkers were weary
Of being cold and wet
But it seems the stormy season
Isnt over yet.

Please can we have a dry spell,
One thats long enough to dry
Our clothes, boots, dogs and dog walks,
And let us see blue sky?

We are tired of wearing waterproof
And windproof attire
And watching the river
Get higher and higher.

Wed love to cheerfully anticipate
Taking our dogs out,
So please Mother Nature,
Can we have a drought?

Be careful what you wish for, Lynne...

But hey, a smashing piece of poetry to accompany this very apt February set, Lynne.

But should the jet stream make things worse
inspiring yet another verse,
More named storms, another curse
The banks of rivers bulge and burst,
For things to come I have no thirst
Just slam the future into reverse.

A wonderful collection of the varying weather conditions, Lynne - and that's one soggy doggy in there!! 😃 Love the poem too, and your wish for drier weather seems to have worked! 😎👍🏻
