Hirst Woods Flora

By LynneJoyce
Again these were taken in the only place that I go to outside my house, Hirst Woods where I walk the dogs every morning.

This post is devoted to the flora there and contains several specimens that we would not normally see flowering at the same time. For instance the Bluebells (Hyacinthoides non scripta, the British native Bluebell) is a good month earlier than usual. I saw the first one there at the end of March. Similarly I have never seen Cuckooflower, a.k.a. Lady's Smock Cardamine pratensis) or Red campion
(Silene dioica) appear so early before.

I chose the opener because I love the colour and textural contrast between the fresh, new leaves and the older ones. The rest of the images give you a flavour of the plants that are growing in and immediately adjacent to the woods.

As ever the exif applies only to the first image. Thank you for viewing and I hope that you enjoy at lest some of these images.

Fabulous detail in these Lynne. Do you carry your tripod with you? I'm much too lazy. But I know I should.

Beautifully presented, Lynne. Normally on this day the horse chestnut leaves are just breaking out but so many trees are fully leaved now......

Well observed beauty of leaves in your lead and a wonderful collection of wildflowers which I've always loved too. On to my daughters became a florist - whether that was due to
an introduction to wildflowers I do not know.
It is amazing how much you can find on one walk in the woods.
