Storm On High

By lynsfiona
Not my usual kind of shot but here goes…

While we were in the Cotswolds this weekend we visited this lovely building - Broadway Tower, it was built in 1799, it sits 1024 feet above sea level and boasts a view of 13 counties from the top. It was a pretty grey day so I expect we only saw a few of these. I wasn't really equipped for this shot wearing a summer dress and a pair of minimal pink flip-flops, I had all on dodging the nettles and the sheep dung!

Thanks for taking a look and have a great start to the week. Please have a look at the larger version if you can!

Lyns x

Like the overall composition, but you've pushed the levels a little bit too far on the sky and left some banding (where you can see the difference between different shades of grey) on the left.

Good description Lyns, and I've now got a mental picture of you knee-deep in sheep poo with red nettle stings all up your legs. What you do for your art eh?

As you say, this is different for you, so full marks for being brave. I agree with Rob about the banding present in the far left sky, but I'd think you could sort this quite easily.

Overall I like this a lot. The letterbox crop suits the image, and the toning gives a very dramatic and moody atmosphere.

Perhaps it could do with a few figures or even a sheep to give a sense of scale though? Just an idea.

Dave.

Had to have a look at this one, especially because it is indeed unusual for you. As far as suggestions go, I think I agree with vaughar and DaveU.

I, too, like the panoramic crop, the mood, the mono, and feel it would definitely be worth it to work on it and make a new version of the image.

Good-looking tower, too. 13 counties, eh? Wow. Sounds like it was worth visiting this location, even though you weren't dressed for it. Glad I don't wear summer dresses and flip-flops... Wink

Thanks for all your comments guys - I agree about the banding, wasn't visible on my screen at home but now I'm viewing it on my screen at work I can see it - must sort that out or it will bug me for eternity!! Lyns x

Very good work. One thingie I noticed immediately is the white outline of the towers though (especially the right one - as looking), due to contrasting I suppose. perhaps you could clone that out, but apart from that... top work

Thought I recognised this place. Only used to live 5 miles from there Wink Clever thinking to shoot from that distance. I've just posted a shot I took there a few months back, at 10mm for a different perspective.

Cheers, Dave

Recognised it immediately, but never have I seen it in these lighting conditions. Lovely shot, and great treatment. Real 'Wuthering Heights' stuff this!
