The thumbnail stood out. The image looks gorgeous, and in large, this portrait is stunning. The expression this gorgeous lady has tells whatever story imagination can brew up. Captivating to look at and technically brilliant. Would that I could take portraits like this.

Morning Lyns. This will fly because IMO it's even better than the previous upload.

Beautiful soft light, subtle mono treatment and whereas the colour shot was almost a profile this has a fuller view of your face which can't be a bad thing at all.

Hang on to that lucky coat-hanger.

I prefer to colour one to be honest as the eyes stand out much better.
Still it is a good one.
Questions: Is this your self portrait? If so, how do you focus on your own eyes?

Wow, Lyns, you've done it again - I'm impressed! I liked the colour shot a lot, but I think this one works even better. Partly due to the reason you mention yourself, it is indeed moodier, but I also think the position of your right hand and the direction in which you're looking work better somehow. Mono was a good choice. And how lucky you are with the way you look, because you'd be hard-pressed to find a better-looking model!

I love b&w portraits and this one is superb. I prefer it to the colour version (although that was quality as well) as the lighting is more distinct. The eyes stand out really well also.

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments, they're very much appreciated.

The way I did these shots was quite simple really.

I held the tip of a clothes hanger where my eyes would be and focused on that, then turned the camera to manual focus so then thae focus is set. I used the timer on the camera and then just made sure I stayed in that position. I find that it helps if you are in a fixed position, say in a chair or against a wall, keeping you in the right place. For this shot I was sat leaning against the edge of a bed so I couldn't accidentally move backwards and ruin the focus. I would really have liked to use my telephoto lens for sp's but it's much easier with my kit lens, (the camera is much closer) you can basically stay in the same position and just lean over to press the shutter.

I hope this helps, it may not be the right way to do it but it seems to work for me!!

Take care and have a great weekend. Lyns x

This is a real stunner Lyns. I have only one little niggle and it's only my opinion so you can take it with a pinch of salt, but I feel that the area just above the shoulder on the left and just below the hair is a little bit too bright for my liking. However it's still superb and wonderful in black and white.

An awe-inspiring portrait - I could gaze at it for hours. This is only the tiniest niggle, but I did find the slightly bright background just behind that gorgeous neck a little distracting. I wonder how it would have looked if that space had been the same as the background in the triangle formed by her arm. As I say, it's the merest quibble, and fades into irrelevance when compared to the sublime quality shining through elsewhere.
