Another shot of My Friendly Neighbourhood Heron at Maxwell Park pond yesterday, as captured in camera and cropped to square format only.
My thanks to all who took the trouble to comment on Now, Which One Should He Have?
NICE SHOT, GOOD DETAILS
This is an amazing close up-- Superbly done in camera-- very impressed-- did not know you were a bird man!
I'm not, Jenn, but this bird is big enough for even me to see, and it allows me to approach within about 6 feet: anything smaller I'd not spot it.
Love these sharp shots !! Great shooting. Chen.
So sharp and so close, terrific image.
This heron is different to us in B.C. That pigtail seems not to be prominent in our blue herons. Like all herons, he is certainly very serious in his attitude. Pattern on the front is different, yet otherwise just like ours. TG
An excellent close-up Ronnie. He must be very friendly to get so close. Super details......Sandy
This is an unusual image of a heron. Very strong.
Quite lovely Ronnie, and excellent with it.
We have "Spoonbills" in the brook near us but they are never near enough
for my small camera. They fly off at 20 foot so they are not to be tackled, I think.
Friendly you say Ronnie Looks rather stern to me ! Excellent image !!
You are so lucky to be able to get that close to him, Ronnie, a super capture of your friend. Carol
Fine Heron portrait.
Brilliant close up,never seen one so close before.
Golly you are in close - even at six feet I would be wary! Great capture Ronnie.
Stunning close-up. Great exposure. Well captured.
Probably the best Heron shot I have ever seen.
Love his expression and a super capture Ronnie.
He looks like he knows all about life.
A really wonderful capture
Super close up Ronnie,
I would still manage to get the back of its head - well captured Ronnie
One of these lovely birds downed one of our Shubunkins..................in one gulp............
There is close and then there is in your face....
A superb capture Ronnie, sharp as a Witches tongue and just as beautiful...
A cracking image, Ronnie with sparkling detail.
pin sharp detail ronnie wonderful textures and colours a stunner top shot
This is superb !!!! Every inch of the way is outstanding Ronnie.
My first thought was a bird with attitude, well taken and a good crop. - gary
This is an amazing image, Ronnie!
Superb shot Ronnie, fantastic detail and clarity
Excellent eye contact Ronnie good detail and clarity with a lovely pose .
Quite scary when I first opened up the pic. All I saw was the eye & the beak.
Great that you could get close enough to it to get such a good bird portrait, (and it's not on a stick!)
Beautifully sharp, Ronnie, and the eye stands out so well. The 'over-the-shoulder' pose fits this format perfectly. My only suggestion might be to crop the top so there is the same space from the head to the top as there is to the side (that might be just one of my idiosyncrasies but I find it gives a better balance in many situations).
Love it Ronnie perfect in every respect.
brilliant image Ronnie
Excellent lighting and detail
a bit of Scottish grumpiness in the eye here Ronnie like the crop fine detail captured good close up
Detailed portrait Ronnie.
He certainly is friendly for a Heron, he's been preening judging by the littl e bit of down on his beak.
Superb detail Ronnie, wonderull portrait.
Looks great to me Ronnie, you have captured the wonderful eccentricity of the bird
An outstanding Portrait Ronnie. Extremely sharp.
Quote: Friendly you say Ronnie Looks rather stern to me ! Excellent image !!
Looks like he has his eye on your Nikon to me
Great capture Ronnie
A super image Ronnie, well captured
Excellent shot, beautiful color and superb clarity.
What a super close-up capture of your heron friend, Ronnie I think he - and you - deserve my UA here...
Wow...what an awesome shot Ronnie, wonderful detail and colour
A stunning close up & congrats on your UAs.
(And thanks for your kind comments on my woof)
Little known safety advice from our local wildfowl recue team. Any approach to an injured or cornered heron or crane is very dangerous. As you know their spearing accuracy is 100% so beware that beak. They will aim for the eye in self defense. Beautiful portrait image. TG
A wonderful close up of this awesome Bird Ronnie.
A great portrait
Simply superb, Ronnie. Excellent composition and stunning detail.
Fantastic image Ronnie - so close and I've never noticed the 'pigtail' before in Herons!
Beautiful coloured markings too.
Exceptionally detailed Ronnie, a real corker of a shot .
a brilliant character portrait.. well done
Wonderfully detailed image Ronnie - a well worn beak.!!
You are so lucky to have such a friendly heron, Ronnie, and have taken good advantage of it here, capturing a beautifully sharp head shot with a nice subtle background.
Fine bird portrait Ronnie. A
A terrific detailed portrait Ronnie, he doesn't look too friendly judging by the look in his eye, but I guess he must be to let you get so close! The herons over here are generally quite wary and fly off if you get too close with the exception of the one I sometimes see at Riverside Park in Gloucester
Excellent captured Heron Ronnie. Sharp Image! James
