Proud Moment

By digicammad
My Son and new Daughter in Law last Monday, one of the proudest days of my life. I'm preparing an album for them of some of my shots, this will be the opening photo.

As I was keeping out of the way of the official photographer, the original, which I have posted in the modification section, features a wooden bridge rail over a large part of the Bride's dress. This has been removed with a combination of clone, heal, burn and smudge tools. A slight softness has been applied with VirtualPhotographer and some distracting leaves top left have been burned in a little.

I hope you like it but, as always, comment and critique are most welcome.

Not sure that I like the softness, but they both look very happy. I like the way the skirt is captured - looks beautiful.

One for the memory box, Ian - congratulations. Excellent job of cloning, BTW, in getting rid of that bridge.

Thanks for the comments.

Sus, I suppose I should have sharpened it a touch for the upload. The printed version is only slightly soft, I think it must have lost a little with the resize for epz.

Congratulations Ian! They look very happy.

The PS work is excellent as far as I can see and I think the B+W brings out the texture of the dress really well.

Thanks for the comments.

Magda, thanks very much for the mod's. Your USM version looks much closer to the actual printed output. Can you explain what you have dodged and burned in the second and third of your mod's, I can't work it out sorry.

Sorry Ian, saw a typing error just as I was uploading, changed it, it went through twice, so, images 2 and 3 are actually the same, lol, (+,~)

This version is much better than the professionals.
You'd have thought that for the amount they charge they'd have noticed something like a bridge covering the brides dress and possibly spoiling the shot of the happy couple.

Thanks Anne but the original of this shot is mine anyway. I assume the professional didn't get the bridge in his shot as I gave him right of way and shot when and where I could without getting under his feet.

A lovely couple Ian. You deserve to be proud. Our daughter is getting married next month, for the 2nd time.

Have you ever heard of this;

Works really well - great bit of PS and like the soft look. Many congrats to you and them! I might have been tempted to re-do the leaves top left (clone out the OOF ones)

Congrats Ian!! You must be a really proud dad! =)

Beautiful work that you've done as i compared this to your original shot. Must have been a lot of work and patience doing all that healing, burning and smudging.

And I also like the mod that Magda has done for u.

Thanks all.

Denny - that link doesn't work, what was it?

Mark - I have burned the leaves in a little. I left them at that as I liked the framing effect but maybe they need more.

Sze - Thanks, I like Magda's mod too. It probably took a couple of hours to get to this stage, no doubt would have been quicker if I wasn't still learning dodge and burn techniques.

Excellent work there - I'd have never have guessed it had that much rail in the original! Lovely shot.

I like Magda's first mod the best.

A lot of work has gone into producing this image - the detail you have put back into the dress where the rail was is super (it must have taken ages). I like the B & W tones.
