a dark glowing sun

By annettep38
many thanks for your honest comments on the swallowtail Smile

here is a dark sunflower, Chris found the seeds on a sunflower in La Rochelle's botanical garden . now we are glad to have it in our garden!

results are mixed... we got a striped one, this very dark one and one of the same red as the flower it came from. Two didn't survive and two aren't open yet.
The birds will be allowed a comparative study of the flavours later on in the year Smile I think my goldfinches are qualified judges. If your country does allow me to send seeds to you please feel free to ask later on.

Wow, Annette, what a wonderful variety of sunflower, never seen anything like this before. I wonder if my parrots would like the seeds, and whether they have a different flavour to the yellow ones? Carol

What a beauty. I'd love some of these mixed in with the more traditional type to make an interesting display.

V2 is my favourite, Annette, V1 looks a little dark because most of the frame is taken up with the flower, but the detail is good. Maybe a little fill flash? The first time I saw red sunflowers, I didn't believe it, but stood and looked at that garden for several minutes, they are certainly eye-catching.

Lots of our sunflowers have given up the ghost this year (heatstroke...............GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin), so we've cut them down, dried the heads, we will extract the seeds and put them in the feeders for the tweets.................GrinGrinGrinGrin

Nice colour of your sun flower............GrinGrinGrinGrin

What a beautiful and unusual looking sunflower Annette, the retired couple who have an allotment next to me have some of these growing on their plot, they have a second home in france and have brought some of these seeds back. Until I saw theirs i had no idea there was such a thing as a sunflower that was not yellow!
