Phantom splashes

By Mari
I haven't had much time to get out there and do any landscapes recently, so had a fiddle in PS instead and put some horses I photographed recently for a magazine onto a beach on the Lleyn Peninsula, with an overlaid texture or two.

I know the lighting isn't right and i couldn't for the life of me figure out how to do hoof splashes in the water, so a bit of artistic licence is required when viewing......

If anyone can help re: the water splashes, i'd be interested, have enabled mods for this reason.

I've also uploaded the original shots too.

Thanks for looking Smile

Mari I haven't got a clue how to add the splashes but I love this as it is anyway, I especially like what you have done to the background.

Beautiful overlay Mari, bothgood images to start with which helps. Splashes I'm afraid I have no help here. Might be worth Googling...creating splashes, or Paul Morgan might be able to help, he's the whizz on PS for me.
Love to see the end result.

This has some great potential. You could always shoot some splashes and add them?

Fantastic image.

have added a mod - far from perfect but hopefully gives a rough approximation of how you could add some ripples. Did a 'stamp visible' in photoshop, then used the elliptical marquee tool to select areas for the ripples, then used filter>distort>zigzag. Added a layer mask to make sure the hooves were not covered by the distortion. Also distorted the reflection of the horses slightly (check out the flaming pear flood filter if you want to do this more realistically than i have).

You could also try overlaying some separate images of water splashes around the hooves as seperate blend layers.

Thanks so much everyone for your comments.

Pete, thats a good idea, would be good to have some splashes in my "library of useful effects" that seems to be growing by the day.

Tommy - I LOVE your mods, Smile they look amazing!!, thanks so much and for explaining how to do it - i'm going to have a go at that. I did actually do a variation with the flood filter on but it looked awful when i did it LOL, i'm not too familiar with the workings of it yet.

He he, thanks Lee I was up til the early hours doing this ! a nice change from doing the bread and butter stuff. Yes it does take a bit of patience but I knew all that colouring in I did as a child would come in handy one day!

Thanks again everyone Smile
