Ice hat

By Marioks
I was shooting on the shore of the sea today. I wish only the sunset was a little bit more colorful.

More fun with the 50mm I see!

The shot is underexposed quite a bit. Thats because the scene was bright, and containd that big ice hat, so the metering did underexpose. I see you anticipated that by using +1/3, but +1 would have done the trick here. Check your LCD and look at the histogram after your shot, you will see immediately if you need more, or less exposure compensation.

You are using a very wide aperture here also, Its has isolated the ice, but it has also contributed to the sky colour being a little weak, as out of focus objects can be so diffuse the colour is diluted.

Also keep in mind that this lens has terrific sharpness at f/5.6, so try that too.

Hi Marius,

I like your shot and i like the fact that you've got down to its level and taken a lower perspective. Willie has given you some great advice above and i like the colour idea of peter's. However I think that it only needs some slight colour increase and only on the sand. As Willie has said, the shot is slightly underexposed and there is a lack of contrast also and giving some contrast will make your hat a lot more punchy. The image has an overall blue tone to it which may not be visible until you see it next to a corrected version. I also think i would probably crop in a little closer as the sea can still feature in your shot if you do and you won't lose any of the context.

I've uploaded a mod where I cropped in a little, adjusted levels to brighten the image, added some colour ro the sand and sharpened.

Hope this helps

Thank you guys for critique. I'm glad tha tyou like the picture and see how much it can be changed on the computer to give fantastic results even though that all of them are different.

P.S. Wilie 50mm lens is really good and I think in nearest future I will buy it.

No one can say there's no subject, but you are quite a long way under exposed. You must check your LCD after shooting if at all possible. It would clearly tell you.
