Fight !!

Another one from the session in the hide in Laois. I did not want to just get photos of bird standing on a perch. Its been done thousands of times and by better photographers than me.

So my aim was to try and get some "action shots", however one of the issues I had is that if I zoomed in tight and waited for some action, generally these guys move so fast that they are out of frame before you can fire the shutter.

So I zoomed out and placed the subjects in one side or corner of the frame hoping that as the action kicked off they would move towards the centre of the frame thereby giving me time to catch them. This failed about 90% of the time but I did catch a couple of shots like the one above.

The other issue I had is that in trying to freeze the action I needed to be shooting at around 1/2000th and as the lens I had was f5.6-f6.3 I had to really ramp up the ISO - in this case 3200. And then when you crop it you can really see the noise.

But it was a good exercise and really gives you an appreciation of really good nature action shots.
