Da hood #2

By MartaHari
Taken in Poble Nou, Barcelona - my new barrio (ie. neighbourhood).

A lot of interesting shapes - steel and ceramics mixed with the greenery.

A heavy stone's throw from Segrada Familia.

That sounds like a great place for a tog to live! Deeply impressed by Segrada Familia on a visit last summer...

For me, SF is a bit of a bone of contention - the locals use it as an excuse to milk the EU funds; the scaffolding has been up since times immemorial and will still be there come Apocalypse!
Since Gaudi, the genius, had most of the plans/designs in his head, as opposed to carefully sketched on paper, that gives the whole committee of (pseudo-)artists and architects an excuse to venture into some solutions that they deem plausibly gaudesque. I love the original part of SF (as in the part erected in the artist's lifetime), but the new additions are just ridiculous with those candy colours and non-porous textures.

I personally think we're witnessing a bastardisation of one of the world's greatest architectural gems.

Luckily, Park Guell and Casa Batlů arestill standing and noone is trying to "improve" them in any shape or form. You should pay them a visit next time you're here. Smile
